Some Fun Facts About Our City!

If you’re considering visiting or relocating to Chattanooga there are a lot of interesting facts about our city. 1: Scenic City
The official nickname for this locale is Scenic City, which is derived from the fact that the city has a plethora of outdoor activities.

2: Mountains and Ridges
Chattanooga TN is surrounded by many ridges and mountains because it lies at the transition between the Cumberland Plateau and the Appalachian Mountains.

3: Chattanooga Choo Choo
Glenn Miller and his orchestra popularized the city internationally in 1941 with his song, “Chattanooga Choo Choo.” The song was inspired by the building of the Chattanooga Choo Choo Terminal Station, which as built in 1908.

4: Chatype
In 2012, Chattanooga developed a unique distinction by launching a one-of-a-kind typeface called Chatype. The development of this typeface marked the first time a city in America did anything like this. It was also the first time an American city crowd-funded a custom-made typeface for use in a municipality.

5: American Indians
American Indians were Chattanooga’s first inhabitants.

6: Many Area Attractions
Chattanooga is famous for its variety of area attractions that include our waterfront attractions along the Tennessee River, the Tennessee Aquarium, and the many caverns to explore. The Tennessee Aquarium is home to the largest freshwater aquarium in the world.

7: Riverbend Festival
Every June, in the downtown area, Chattanooga hosts an annual music festival (June 3-5) that’s well-known in the area.

8: Tree City USA
Chattanooga has received recognition as a Tree City USA community since 1990.

9: Writing Conferences
Several writing conferences, including the Festival of Writers and the Conference on Southern Literature, are hosted in Chattanooga. The Arts & Education Council sponsor them.

10: Birthplace of the Tow Truck – That’s right the tow truck!
The International Towing and Recovering Hall of Fame and Museum is in this city because it’s the birthplace of tow trucks.
